Tuesday's are normally reserved for making the trek to Irwin for a day of injections and patient socializing. The 24th of July brought a new kind of Tuesday experience. Laureen and I had learned the previous Thursday that her doctor, Dr. Kaminski, wouldn't let her go past the 24th without having begun labor. We got the call at 10:30 a.m. that Magee Hospital was ready for us to head down for Laureen to be induced. We drove down to Oakland with a quiet nervousness filling the car. I know I was shaking with excitement and a little fear as we got closer. Needless to say I was a bit irritated when we had to circle the parking garage to find a parking spot.
My mindset going in was that this would be a quick process (6-7 hours). I had no idea what we were about to get into. Tuesday turned into Wednesday and our baby still decided she wanted to keep us waiting. After 36 hours of labor (in which Laureen was an absolute trooper) we welcomed Felicity Marie into our family at 12:47 a.m. on July 26, 2012.
She weighed 8 lbs 1 oz and was 21 inches long. I was a little nervous cutting the cord, but after some encouragement from Laureen I was able to get the shaking under control and cut it. It was an extremely long process, but well worth the ending.
